Tourist highlights
Nuremberg Castle (Kaiserburg) and Albrecht Dürer are indelibly associated with Nuremberg. But there are also many other interesting sights to be discovered. In the picturesque old town, Romanesque and Gothic churches, fountains, monuments and markets are within walking distance of each other.
There is also plenty to explore outside the city centre. On a tour of the former Nazi Party Rally Grounds (Reichsparteitagsgelände), for example, you can learn how the city approaches its National Socialist heritage. In the Nuremberg Zoo, on the other hand, you can marvel at the diversity of species while relaxing in the greenery.

Museums
Nuremberg's museum landscape invites you to see and marvel: In addition to the largest collection of German art and culture at the Germanische Nationalmuseum and Dürer's own house, Nuremberg is also home to many other museums that are steeped in history and rich in experience. In the Toy Museum (Spielzeugmuseum), for example, you can admire old and new toy treasures, while the Bratwurst Museum or the Club Museum of the 1st FC Nuremberg offer rather unusual collections.
The municipal museums bring history vividly to life with guided tours and theatrical enactments.
Theatre & Film
Staatstheater Nürnberg and its Opera House may dominate the city’s theatrical life with opera, plays and ballets, but numerous independent theatres also enrich the scene. Puppeteers, another fixture, come to Nuremberg from all over the world for the International Puppet Theatre Festival. The city’s eleven Kulturläden – “Culture Shops” – are local social and cultural centres for their districts, and have come to be national role models.
For film fans, the city offers not just one of the largest, most up-to-date multiplexes in Europe, but also fine small art houses and film theatres.
Music
Nuremberg's musical life with its numerous events, music venues and local artists offers a great variety. There is something for everyone here, whether classical, jazz, pop, rock, or world music. The small and large stages in locations such as Sohle 4, Luise – the Cultfactory, the Arena Nuremberg or the Frankenhalle are open to musicians from all over the world.

Nuremberg is one of the most important destinations for trade fairs and conventions: NürnbergMesse is one of the world’s 15 largest exhibition companies. At its Nuremberg Exhibition Center and around the world, it organises trade fairs in the Building & Construction, Electronics & Security, Process Technology, Retail & Consumer Goods and Social & Public sectors. Its portfolio includes some 120 national and international trade shows and conventions on-site and hybrid forms.
With its central location and excellent connections, NürnbergMesse offers exhibition halls, convention facilities and event locations for occasions in every format. Combinable as desired, and fitted out with the latest equipment, the 16 exhibition halls have a total of 180,000 m² of gross exhibition space. The three NürnbergConvention Centers also offer capacity for conventions and conferences for up to 12,800 participants.
Festivals & Events
Nuremberg’s calendar of events is packed tight with events all year round. Musical events in a unique setting, such as the Bardentreffen “Bards’ Meeting”, the Klassik Open Air or Rock im Park ("Rock in the Park"), attract visitors from Germany and all over the world every year.
The city also gathers around for traditional festivals: At the Nuremberg Old Town Festival or the Folk Festivals in spring and autumn, for example, you can experience Franconian culture up close and get into the Christmas spirit at the Christkindlesmarkt at the end of the year.
Another highlight is the "Blaue Nacht" (Blue Night). At the kick-off event for the Nuremberg Summer of Culture, the historical Old Town is bathed in a sea of light by impressive light and video installations and accompanied by diverse performances and offerings in participating cultural institutions.

Lots of people are probably acquainted with Nuremberg’s best-known specialties – its beer, bratwurst (Nuremberg sausages) and “Elisen-Lebkuchen" (gingerbread). But the city’s rich selection of dining options includes not just traditional Franconian cooking, but trendy and gourmet restaurants and is also a stronghold of German whiskeys.

Nuremberg offers extensive shopping pleasures for every taste and budget. You will certainly find what you are looking for in the trendy and traditional shops in the numerous shopping streets of the old town, the larger shopping centres, outlets and small district shops in the surrounding area or at flea markets.

Outdoor activities in Nuremberg and the surrounding area
Good things in easy reach! You can take a quick break in one of the beautiful public gardens or in the meadows along the Pegnitz River in the midst of town. Not much farther away are the Dutzendteich and Wasserwelt Wöhrder See, offering recreation areas for joggers, bicyclists, walkers and swimmers. It’s also worth paying a visit to the Nürnberger Tiergarten, one of the largest and most beautifully landscaped zoos in Europe.
Nuremberg’s central location in Franconia makes it a great base for excursions. You can explore the diversity of the Franconian landscape – whether stalactite caves, impressive rock formations, or lakes and meadows in the “Franconian Switzerland”, the Altmühl Valley, or the Franconian Lake District.
Or if you can’t get enough of city history, the nearby towns are also worth a visit: the university city Erlangen; the “cloverleaf city” Fürth; or Schwabach, the city of goldbeaters.
